●      Tell us a little about you.

I’m an elementary school teacher turned event planner + Pure Barre studio manager. I have always loved planning events and first got my start with events through student organizations and nonprofits in college. I loved everything about planning my own wedding - from meeting with vendors, to creating design boards and every little detail in between. I knew I wanted to put this passion to work. After getting married in 2013, my husband and I lived in Denver, CO for about 4 years. This is where I got my start in wedding coordination in 2014. I loved working with couples to turn their dream wedding into reality; the beautiful scenery, rustic outdoors, and dreamy Colorado venues didn’t hurt either. I moved back to Indianapolis about a year ago and quickly searched for a wedding + event company to work with here. I’m excited to be part of the Plum and Poppy team and coordinate weddings back in my home state of Indiana.

●      What’s your go to Starbucks order?

Cold brew with vanilla + milk

●      What’s your favorite part about being a wedding planner?

When I planned my own wedding, I knew that I wanted to have a wedding coordinator there for the day-of so that I could just relax and enjoy my wedding day. That was the best decision I made because I truly didn’t have to worry about a thing that day! My favorite part about being a wedding planner is giving this gift to other couples so they can enjoy their big day. I love putting all of the pieces and details together so it turns out just the way the couple had envisioned their wedding day. Don’t stress - I’ve got it covered!

●      What’s your favorite place to travel?

Kiawah Island, South Carolina. It’s a hidden paradise along the coast of Charleston and has been my favorite vacation getaway for as long as I can remember.

●      What’s your favorite part of a wedding day?

My favorite part of wedding day is later in the evening when I have time to have a cup of coffee and a slice of cake. It’s often the first time that I’ve sat down and taken a moment to look around and take everything in. I look and see the bride and groom dancing, smiling, and having a good time. There is a buzz in the air of love and happiness. I know that the day has been a success and I’ve done everything I can to make the couple happy. Everything moves fast that day, so I try to take a moment and appreciate all of the little details that have fallen into place to make the day perfect for the couple.

●      What’s your favorite place to have dinner out in Indianapolis?

This is a hard question, but one of my favorite places is Cooper’s Hawk. Great food and great wine - what more could you ask for?

●      What’s your best advice to couples on their wedding day?

Enjoy every moment. The day will go faster than you could imagine, so my best advice is to just enjoy the day and soak it all in.

●      What’s your favorite memory from your own wedding?

On a day that I had planned every detail for, my husband somehow pulled off a surprise for me. At the beginning of the reception, he called my name over the speakers, I looked up and saw him at the front of the room with his guitar. He surprised me by singing and playing “Marry Me” by Train.

Natalie + Chris' Wedding Video

We loved helping Natalie and her mom plan all the beautiful details for her wedding to Chris! It was a beautiful sun drenched day full of happy tears at the best first look ever and lots of fun! See their highlight video below from Unique Heart Productions! Thank you to our entire team: Conforti Photography, Something Blue Stylists, Marie Gabriel Couture, Classic Cakes, and the Hyatt Regency!

Getting To Know The Team: Beth

We're thrilled to share a bit more about our wonderful team member Beth McHugh! She brings so much happiness to our team and our clients! Find out more about her below.

·      Tell us a little about you.

One of my favorite words is JOY, and I try to live my life with that in mind.   I am so fortunate to have an amazing family, (I have the most adorable granddaughter, who lights up our life), incredible friends and the opportunity to work with ridiculously talented professionals.  Currently, I am planning our daughter's wedding, and so, once again, I am the Mother of the Bride, and loving every minute of it!

·      What’s your go to Starbucks order?

A vanilla bean scone, please.....and then a quick trip to McDonalds for a large diet coke with extra ice.  Forgive me, coffee just isn't my thing!

·      What’s your favorite part about being a wedding planner?

If I had to choose my favorite part of this job, it would be the relationships I get to create with the couples I work with. Getting to know my clients in the midst of planning something so personal and significant – learning about who they are as individuals and then finding ways to reflect that in their wedding design – it is very rewarding.

·      What’s your favorite place to travel?

Anywhere there is a beach. Give me the sun, sand, a good book and my family any day....and maybe some sangria wouldn't hurt!

·      What’s your favorite part of a wedding day?

This is a hard one, I have many.  For me, the sweetest and most emotional moment of the day is the Bride and Groom's first look.  It is a private, intimate few minutes, before the wedding party and family joins them, that is just for the two of them.  It is a quiet, very special moment, usually, followed by a few happy tears.

·      What’s your favorite place to have dinner out in Indianapolis?

My new favorite restaurant is Vida.  Their menu offers an array of incredible tasty options.  I love their wall of greens and their wine pairings.

·      What’s your best advice to couples on their wedding day?

This is your day, so breathe, eat, enjoy, soak everything in and nothing important will happen without the two of you.

·      What’s your favorite memory from your own wedding?

Oh, another hard question, I loved our wedding day. One of the most special moments was when Mike & I were exchanging our vows.  It was as if there wasn't anyone else in the church, holding hands, repeating the vows, it felt so right.  And it must have been, we have been married for 28 years!

Diem + Tyler's Wedding Video

We love reliving Diem + Tyler's beautiful wedding day with this video from MK Wedding Story! Matt captured their day beautifully! We loved helping them coordinate all the details to ensure their day was flawless from start to finish! In the video you'll hear parts of a letter Tyler's dad wrote to him before he passed away so have your tissues ready! It was a touching sentiment on a beautiful day! Kate + Jimmy 7.29.17 Canal 337 Wedding

We were honored to help Kate + Jimmy with their Canal 337 wedding in downtown Indianapolis on July 29, 2017. Kate + Jimmy live in California so we did all the planning leading up to the big day from a couple thousand miles apart. This is a common occurrence for us so it was no big deal and we were happy to be along for their journey. We helped them through a few logistical sticking points and made sure the day was perfect! It was truly and honor to have helped them coordinate their stunning Canal 337 wedding! See all the beautiful images below from Jennifer Van Elk Photography. Matt + Mary's July D'Amore Wedding

We had such a wonderful time helping Mary + Matt plan their D'Amore wedding in Indianapolis this past July! Mary + Matt truly planned this wedding together the entire way. They wanted a sophisticated and elegant day that their guests would remember. There was a subtle theme of the Royal Wedding which we had so much fun incorporating. From the flower girl dresses, wedding cake, signature cocktail, and Mary's dress! It was a beautiful day! They are both busy professionals so we were able to help make the most of their time as we planned their wedding. It was a smooth process and we definitely accounted for every detail. Soha + Daniyal's Reception at the JW Marriott

I was so fortunate to help plan Soha's wedding in 2017 as well as her brother's earlier in the year. Her family halfway adopted me throughout the process. They were so incredibly kind and generous with me and I feel incredibly blessed to have shared in their two children's journey! This wedding was the first time I ever asked to be included in a family picture that's how connected I feel to them all. Soha and Daniyal lived out of town so her family and I did a great deal of the planning while they were both busy with work. We had the pleasure of planning this reception at the JW Marriott in downtown Indianapolis. Their staff makes planning an incredibly elaborate event for 500 people a breeze! We had many vendors who all worked together beautifully to ensure this day was perfect! See how beautifully it all came together and my favorite family photo below :)

Soha + Daniyal's Mehndi at 502 E Event Center

We loved helping Soha + Daniyal plan their wedding long distance. They both lived out of town which always presents a few challenges but it's something we're very familiar with so we can help to ease the process. Soha's family was very involved in planning things as they're local so we had a multitude of meetings with them and then with the bride and groom whenever they were in town. Soha is a doctor like many of our clients so her busy schedule makes it hard for her to get away from work. This is a way that we can help our clients out immensely by making the most of their time and doing much of the leg work for them.  It turned out to be a beautiful vibrant day that you can see below. Soha's family really wanted to transform 502 E Event Center so we implored lots of elaborate lighting to alter the space. The smart lights allowed us to change the lighting throughout the night based on what was happening as well which made for a lot of fun during all the performances! It was a beautiful evening celebrating Pakistani traditions in the best way!

IBJ Article on Social Media's Influence on Weddings

We were honored to share our thoughts on social media's influence on weddings with the IBJ a few weeks back. Whenever someone wants an experienced industry professionals perspective we're thrilled to share our thoughts after 6 years of helping clients say "I Do"!  See the fun article here! We were also thrilled they chose images from Jacquie + JJ's big day to accompany the article. Thank you SB Childs Photography, Scottish Rite Cathedral, Thomas Caterers, and Pomp & Bloom for the beautiful images!

Laura + Ben's Ritz Charles Garden Pavilion Wedding Pictures

We loved helping Laura + Ben plan their beautiful day at the Ritz Charles in their Garden Pavilion! The couple lives just a bit outside of Indianapolis so we would make the most of their visits to the city to check lots of items off our wedding planning to do list. Each visit was a joy! Laura's mom was very involved in planning even though she lives in California. We would conference call her in to each of our meetings so we could have her insight and keep her in the loop! Laura and Ben had a love for one another that is very uncommon. I loved watching them show each other great kindness and grace! They were a joy to be around every step of the way! They were so sweet and I will truly miss working with them and their kind families! See all their stunning images below from the big day! We put together an incredible vendor team to make it all happen and I'm so thankful for all their hard work!

Alyssa + Tyler's Lake Wawasee Oakwood Hotel Wedding

I had the best time helping Alyssa + Tyler plan their wedding while they lived in California! We made special trips to Lake Wawasee to do some planning while they were home too. Alyssa truly wanted to transform the space which I believe we did! She wanted to pull in rustic, nautical, and elegant touches. We did just that in using stunning florals with family vases to incorporate rustic and nautical touches. We then ensured that those themes carried throughout every detail of the day down to the invitations and menus with touches of greenery. As you can see below the day turned out to be stunning!! We loved working with the Oakwood Hotel which hosted the day and the fantastic team of vendors that helped bring Alyssa's vision to life! Alyssa + Tyler's Lake Wawasee Rehearsal Dinner Cruise

We loved helping Alyssa + Tyler plan their Lake Wawasee wedding at the Oakwood Resort & Hotel! Alyssa has the most exquisite taste and her mom is incredibly sweet! Needless to say wedding planning with them was a dream! Alyssa and Tyler lived in California and Chicago as we planned the wedding which is one of the many reasons they wanted to have a planner. We made the most of their trips home to knock out planning their wedding which wasn't in Indianapolis either. Lake Wawasee is where Alyssa + Tyler's families spend their summers so it made the perfect meaningful backdrop for their wedding day! It's also where they met! After their rehearsal they took a cruise on this fabulous boat for a fun cocktail hour with their guests before their rehearsal dinner. Such a fun and unique way to celebrate love and being on the water! See a few snaps below from Conforti Photography of the beautiful evening!

Amanda + Kyle's Union Station Wedding

We had a wonderful time helping Amanda plan her wedding to Kyle at Union Station Indianapolis over the past year! We love working at Union Station as they offer impeccable service and a great experience for clients and their families. Amanda has great spunk and a kind heart! She was a joy to help and we will miss having her as a client! Amanda is part Phillipino so it was really fun to find ways to incorporate her heritage into their beautiful Catholic ceremony at St. John the Evangelist. Amanda also has the sweetest son Brayden who came to most of our meetings and was along for all the fun on wedding day! He kept us all laughing and enjoying every moment. He also kept Amanda and Kyle on the dance floor most of the evening! See all the pretty details below from her wedding!

Guest Blog: The Importance of Organization

We have a guest blog this week from the team at Honeyfund! See their thoughts below on the importance of organization.

The Importance Of Organization On Your Wedding Day

The closer you get to your wedding, the more you seem to have to do. This cannot be avoided and it is not just you. You are trying to coordinate guest, vendors, deliveries, caterers, entertainment, travel arrangements, a photographer, and a bridal party to magically come together at a particular time.

Every person and every company have their own issues to deal with to ensure they are at the appointed place at the appointed time. Failure is not an option.

First things first

The number one thing you need to do is hire a wedding planner. Even if you are able to do everything yourself, you will not have time. Even wedding planners need to hire a wedding planner when they are having a wedding.

Next, you need to contact a dress supplier like Azazie. They are unique in that they will let you pay a small (really small) deposit and send bridesmaids dresses to you to try on at home.

You can save a lot of time and money taking advantage of online services. The sooner the bridesmaid dresses are out of the way, the more you can focus on you.

Set up your Honeyfund account. This is your free online bridal registry which will help you in your planning and funding of the wedding.

You do not have to have everything clear in your mind to get started. You can add items (like special honeymoon dates and candle light dinners on the beach) later when your plans are more final. But set it up early so you will not miss any opportunities.

Finally, get a business binder with clips and sections and organize every phase of the wedding. Keep all of your receipts and contracts in this binder and guard it with your life. If something goes wrong, you will need to refer back to those papers.

Assign duties

We want to stress the importance of remembering that your bridal party is made up of people you love and people who love you.

No matter the stress level, remember to be kind, thoughtful, and polite. Bridezilla might be a funny show, but it is a sure way to be lonely in real life. However, the function of a bridesmaid is to attend to the needs of the bride. While the majority of the duties fall on the maid of honor, each member of the bridal party should be willing to assist.

Whether that means mailing invitations, arranging flower donations to a nursing home after the wedding, or choosing candy for your candy buffet. Ask your bridesmaids to help you and assign them duties as they have time to help.

Being organized for your wedding is not just a good thing, it is a critical thing. The organized bride has everything she needs at hand when she needs it.

She is not searching for a stylist or a DJ at the last minute. She is not freaking out because she forgot to order champagne for the toast, and she rarely has to limp down the aisle because she did not actually try on those 5” heels before the big day.

For a less-stressful and more fun experience and for beautiful wedding photos and almost no one gets their feelings hurt due to misunderstandings, get organized.

Make sure the organization includes the honeymoon and travel. The wedding is not over until you are being carried over the threshold of your own front door.
